This program is designed for students who have chosen to pursue a career as a professional nurse. The purpose of the Bachelor’s degree (pre-licensure) nursing program at Davenport University is to prepare the graduate with the competencies necessary to function in the role of the professional nurse and successfully pass the national licensure exam. These competencies, based on standards set by the American Nurses Association and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, encompass clinical judgment, assessment skills, communication, collaboration and teamwork, applied research, self-directed learning, leadership and management skills, systems thinking, and professional development. This program prepares graduates for entry into nursing practice across the continuum of care and across the lifespan.
Program seats are limited and entry is competitive. Students are admitted to the program based on their cumulative GPA, academic readiness test results, professional recommendations, and a personal essay. Students who meet admissions criteria will be provisionally admitted to the program pending completion of the Criminal Background Check (CBC) and Drug Screen (DS). Nursing Pre-licensure students must earn a grade of C or better in all required BIOL and CHEM courses. This includes transfer courses as well as courses taken at DU.
