NURS 433C - Leadership in Nursing Clinical


3 Credits
This summative clinical course focuses on the synthesis of nursing knowledge and skills while applying leadership theory in the management of the healthcare environment. Emphasis is on clinical judgment and awareness of leadership styles that are essential to the professional nurse. This 1:1 precepted clinical experience provides opportunities to practice prioritization, delegation, evaluation and coordination of care that ensure readiness for practice upon graduation. Students will demonstrate accomplished clinical judgment in the prioritization and provision of safe, person-centered care that is applicable to a specific assigned clinical site and the given patient population with complex healthcare needs. NURS433C requires 135 hours of clinical practice for the semester.
Grade Note(s): A grade of B- or better is required to pass this course successfully.
Fees: Additional course fees apply.
Component Corequisite(s): NURS 433  and NURS 433C. The lecture, lab (L) and clinical (C) components of each NURS course must be successfully completed during the same semester. All component co-requisites must be repeated if a failing grade is received in any one of them.
Prerequisite(s): NURS 355 , NURS 355C , NURS 370 , NURS 370L  and NURS 370C  
Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Employ the clinical judgment model at the accomplished level to plan, implement, and evaluate safe, patient-centered nursing care that meets the comprehensive human needs of clients with actual or potential health problems.
2. Perform complex psychomotor and health assessment skills according to current professional practice standards.
3. Evaluate their own actions, decisions, internalized accountability, and professional value system through reflective activities.
4. Coordinate person-centered nursing care for clients in collaboration with the interprofessional healthcare team.
5. Demonstrate accomplished verbal, written, and electronic communication skills with patients, families, and the interprofessional team that promotes collaboration, quality, safety, and a caring relationship for optimal outcomes.
6. Use information and communication technology to support clinical decision-making, prevent error, and promote quality improvement.
