NURS 370C - Nursing Care of Children Clinical 2 Credits This clinical course utilizes experiential learning for the student who will provide nursing care for the developing child and their family from birth through adolescence. Students will use the clinical judgment model and incorporate principles of growth and development to create and implement plans of care across the health continuum. Students will apply clinical judgment skills, developmentally-appropriate therapeutic communication techniques, and principles of safe, evidence-based, person-centered care. NURS370C requires 90 hours of clinical practice for the semester. Grade Note(s): A grade of B- or better is required to pass this course successfully. Fees: Additional course fees apply. Component Corequisite(s): NURS 370 , NURS 370L and NURS 370C. The lecture, lab (L) and clinical (C) components of each NURS course must be successfully completed during the same semester. All component co-requisites must be repeated if a failing grade is received in any one of them. Prerequisite(s): NURS 334 , NURS 334L , NURS 334C , and PSYC 303 Course Learning Outcomes: 1. Reflect critically, at the accomplished level, on their actions, decisions, and internalized accountability.
2. Employ the clinical judgment model at the accomplished level to plan, implement, and evaluate safe, person-centered nursing care that meets basic to complex human needs and promotes health of pediatric clients and their families.
3. Examines coordination of person-centered nursing care for pediatric clients in collaboration with the interprofessional healthcare team.
4. Relate pathophysiological concepts and diagnostic test results for common pediatric health alterations with their clinical manifestations and nursing interventions used to deliver safe, person-centered care for the pediatric client and their family.
5. Perform increasingly complex psychomotor and health assessment skills, adapted to the client’s developmental level, while adhering to current professional practice standards.
6. Demonstrate accomplished verbal, written, and electronic communication skills with patients, families, and the interprofessional team that promotes collaboration, quality, and safety for optimal outcomes.
7. Uses information and communication technology to support clinical decision-making, prevent error, and promote quality improvement.
Clinical Competency Statement
At the conclusion of 370C, students will demonstrate accomplished clinical judgment, as measured by Lasater’s Clinical Judgment Rubric LCJR in the provision of safe, person-centered care to infants, children andor teenagers and their families with basic to complex healthcare alterations.
