HINT 209 - Quality and Performance Improvement in Health Care


3 Credits
This course is an introduction of the methods used to define, describe, recognize and apply total quality management in health care. The principles of the quality assessment process and risk management will be emphasized. The course will provide an opportunity for the student to gain skills in collecting and analyzing data through a team approach.
Grade Note(s): A grade of C or better is required to pass this course successfully.

Prerequisite(s): HINT 215  for HIT/HIM majors; HLTH 210  for HSAD majors
Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Apply the internal and external documentation requirements of HIM.
2. Apply legal, privacy, and security measures to comply with quality standards.
3. Identify clinical documentation and compliance activities that meet requirement standards.
4. Explain analytics, decision support, research methods, information integrity, and data quality.
5. Recognize leadership functions and roles related to quality measures.
