NURS 456L - Nursing Care of Adults III Lab

30 Contact Hours
This course is the third of medical-surgical lab learning experiences. This course provides opportunities to practice safe patient care for adult patients in a laboratory setting. Students practice situationally-relevant technical skills used in the care of medical-surgical adult patients with advanced health alterations. Additionally, students work in teams to provide collaborative nursing care in high-fidelity simulation scenarios. This course emphasizes principles of patient safety, communication, teamwork and the development of clinical judgment. This course requires 30 contact hours.
Note: This course is restricted to special situation transfer nursing students who have been granted advanced standing as a senior nursing student. 
Grade Note(s): A grade of B- or better is required to pass this course. 
Component Corequisite(s): NURS 456 , NURS 456L, and NURS 456C  . The lecture, lab(L), and clinical(C) components of each NURS course must be successfully completed during the same semester. All component corequisites must be repeated if a failing grade is received in any one of them.
Prerequisite(s): Special situation transfer nursing students who have been granted advanced standing as a senior nursing student. 
Course Learning Outcomes:
  1. Reflect critically on their actions and decisions made in the simulated care environment.
  2. Perform situationally-relevant nursing and health assessment skills in the simulated care of adult patients according to current professional practice standards.
  3. Exhibit developing to accomplished clinical judgment when making clinical decisions in a simulated care environment.
  4. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the interprofessional team to promote collaboration, quality, and safety for optimal outcomes in the simulated care environment.
