60+ Transfer Program

Program Requirements:

  • Eligibility for this program requires completion of an associate degree prior to enrollment.

  • Residency Requirement: A minimum of 30 credits including 50% of the major must be completed at DU.

The BS Urban STEM Education Elementary program focuses on training students to become teachers who provide equitable high-quality STEM education in the K-8 setting. The focus is on promoting the teaching methods that support active STEM engagement and teacher self-efficacy in urban settings. By embedding service-learning teaching experiences into the curriculum throughout each of the four program years, students will gain extensive practice in implementing culturally responsive teaching strategies proven to positively impact urban students’ outcomes in STEM. Students in the Elementary major will acquire a broad base of STEM knowledge for application in most classrooms. Additionally, they can complete the Integrated Science Concentration for deeper knowledge of STEM areas.

Foundational Courses - 3 Credits


  • 3 Credits
  • Students must have completed a college level math course equivalent to MATH 120 as a part of this program. Course fulfillment or requirement will be determined at time of enrollment. Not included in credit totals required for this degree.

Foundations of Excellence - 16-17 Credits


* Science Requirement: Students must complete both a Physical Science (Chemistry or Physics) with lab, and a Life Science (Biology) with Lab to meet the science requirement. Completed science courses in the associates degree can fulfill up to 4 credits without replacing required credit for the degree.
