UEDU 370 - Advanced Secondary Science Methods 3 Credits In this course, students will learn to teach science courses and laboratories in secondary urban schools based on Next Generation Science Standards. Candidates will become proficient in skills germane to effective teaching in science classrooms including assessing students’ knowledge before instruction, designing curriculum, planning lessons, determining, and adapting appropriate teaching methods, promoting inquiry, fostering dialogue, meeting district and national standards, using technology to promote learning, and assessing students’ learning. This course explores both the teacher’s and the students’ role in K-12 science classrooms. Candidates will gain insights into methods of effective communication and interaction with students, utilization of technology for laboratory research and reference, and methods of evaluating student achievement. Science process skills will also be strongly emphasized. Prerequisite(s): UEDU 330
