HCMG 745 - Healthcare Practice Management 3 Credits Students in this course integrate knowledge and skills developed in previous courses into the context of health services practice management. Emphasis will be placed on the application of best business practices providing practical, proven solutions for “real-world” concerns. These include billing, coding, collections, electronic medical record, technology, workflow, office layout, staffing, compensation, reducing malpractice risk, OSHA, HIPAA, vendor relations, compliance, and marketing. Students will be able to apply these methods to effectively manage any health services practice. Students will also integrate higher-level practice management principles for a healthcare organization. Emphasis will be on strong practice-to-patient relationships and adhering to a model of patient-centered medical care. Included in discussions will be operational resources related to current and future use of technology. Grade Note(s): A grade of C or better is required on the final assessment in order to earn a passing grade in this course. Prerequisite(s): HCMG 750 Course Learning Outcomes: 1. Evaluate an organization’s key requirements for efficient financial management systems and recommend appropriate EMR, coding, billing, collections, general accounting, budgeting, expense management, managed care contract strategy, and vendor relations processes.
2. Integrate an interdisciplinary approach to solving practice management issues of personnel and facilities management.
3. Analyze benchmarking and workflow data to develop medical practice productivity standards and best practices.
4. Construct marketing and communication strategies aligned with a practice’s vision that promote the practice and ensure appropriate customer service from reception to service delivery.
