DATA 625 - Data Mining 3 Credits This course introduces students to data mining methods and applications. It covers basic concepts and tools for data mining, including data sources, data cleaning tools and methods, mainstream algorithms for data mining, statistical modeling, popular tools for mining structured data and unstructured data. Through hands-on practice conducting data analytics projects using real world data sets, students also learn how data mining can be effectively used in various application areas to drive decisions and actions. Course Learning Outcomes: 1. Plan and execute a data mining project.
2. Apply processes of data cleansing, clustering, and classification to real world data.
3. Utilize data mining tools to extract, transfer, load, and preprocess data.
4. Use SQL, NoSQL, and Hadoop to retrieve and store Big Data.
5. Discuss standard data mining, machine learning methods and techniques, and what kinds of data can be mined.
