CHEM 263L - Clinical Chemistry and Instrumentation Laboratory

The Clinical Chemistry and Instrumentation Laboratory course offers students practical, hands-on training in the application of biochemical analysis techniques for clinical diagnostics. Through a combination of laboratory exercises, demonstrations, and projects, students will develop proficiency in using state-of-the-art instrumentation and analytical methods commonly employed in clinical chemistry laboratories.
Grade Note(s): BS Biological Sciences degree program requires a C or better grade for successful completion.
Prerequisite(s): CHEM 250  , CHEM 250L  
Corequisite(s): CHEM 263  
Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Create quality control measures for monitoring assay performance in accordance with regulatory standards.
2. Evaluate the accuracy and precision of biochemical assays using statistical analysis of experimental data based on assay performance and clinical significance.
3. Analyze experimental data.
4. Recommend follow-up testing and patient management based on assay results.
5. Apply principles of clinical chemistry instrumentation when operating, troubleshooting, calibrating, and maintaining laboratory equipment.
6. Demonstrate adherence to laboratory safety protocols and good laboratory practices, ensuring proper handling of hazardous materials and maintaining a safe working environment for oneself and others.
7. Collaborate effectively with others in the laboratory setting, demonstrating teamwork, professionalism, and ethical conduct in all aspects of laboratory work.
