NURS 217L - Health Assessment in Nursing Lab 1 Credits 2 Contact Hours This course prepares the undergraduate nursing student to collect data and perform a complete and thorough client assessment, including history and physical examination. The course emphasis is a holistic approach to assessment. The focus of the four domains of man’s physical, psychological, spiritual, and cultural needs throughout the lifespan are presented. Note: This course requires 2 hours of skills lab each week. Grade Note(s): A grade of B- or better is required to pass this course successfully. Fees: Additional course fees apply. Component Corequisite(s): NURS 217 and NURS 217L Prerequisite(s): BIOL 221 and BIOL 221L , NURS 101 and NURS 101C Course Learning Outcomes: 1. Analyze data collected to prioritize client problems.
2. Demonstrate cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills needed to perform effective assessments.
3. Demonstrate therapeutic communication when interacting with clients to collect health data.
4. Demonstrate effective communication of health assessment data using verbal and written modalities.
5. Identify assessment findings that indicate health promotion, wellness, and functional needs.
6. Explore the role of nursing assessment in the context of interprofessional client care.
