NURS 317Y - Health Assessment in Nursing 4 Credits This course prepares the undergraduate nursing student to collect data and perform a complete and thorough client assessment, including history and physical examination. The student is provided opportunities to practice health assessment skills using active learning strategies.The student will use health assessment data to prioritize patient problems and consider nursing interventions. A holistic approach, incorporating the physiological, psycho-social, cultural, and spiritual domains of the human person, is emphasized. The theoretical foundations and evidence basis for assessment techniques are included. Grade Note(s): A grade of B- or better is required to pass this course successfully. Fees: Additional course fees apply. Prerequisite(s): Admission to the BSN-C program. Course Learning Outcomes: 1. Integrate principles of physical and behavioral sciences in the completion of a health history and physical assessment.
2. Relate assessment findings that indicate health promotion, wellness, and functional needs.
3. Demonstrate cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills needed to perform effective assessments.
4. Apply evidence-based and theoretical foundations of health assessment in prioritizing patient problems and nursing interventions.
5. Apply the principles of holism and patient-centered care in conducting a complete health assessment of adults, including the physiological, psycho-social, cultural, and spiritual domains.
6. Demonstrate therapeutic communication when interacting with clients to collect health data.
7. Demonstrate effective written, verbal, and electronic communication of assessment findings within the context of interprofessional collaborative care.
