MGMT 399 - Certified Manager (CM) Examination 3 Credits Students analyze the management functions of planning, organizing, directing, and controlling and apply these functions to situations managers encounter as they achieve organizational objectives. This certification course emphasizes the application of real-world, practical management skills and techniques over theories, critical thinking and decision-making over rote knowledge. Note: Students are responsible to determine if they meet the professional requirements to take the CM exam at the ICPM website www.icpm.biz. Successful completion of this course does not guarantee the passing of the Certified Manager exam. Fees: Additional course fees apply. Prerequisite(s): Achieved senior status (in any DU College). Course Learning Outcomes: 1. Define and understand the role of management, and discuss the major contributions to the evolution of management theory.
2. Identify and discuss appropriate managerial functions, skills, and theoretical approaches that can be used within the manager’s unique environment.
3. Understand and apply the concept of social and ethical responsibility pertinent to the managerial role.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of the role of global management for the domestic manager.
5. Demonstrate knowledge and application of the process of setting objectives, planning, decision-making, strategy formulation, and the tools MBO, probability, decision trees, PERT, forecasting, etc. necessary to carry out these functions.
6. Identify and integrate methods of organizational structure and the related topics of division of labor, authority responsibility, span of control, centralization decentralization, delegation, organizational change, staffing, and diversity within the workforce.
7. Identify, understand, and apply accepted theories of leadership and motivation as they relate to utilizing effective communication and the management of individual and group behavior.
8. Demonstrate knowledge and application of the control function and process as related to production management, total quality management, information systems, control tools, and human reaction to control systems.
