HINT 294L - Advanced Coding Lab 2 Credits This laboratory course will provide extensive experience with various computerized encoding systems and practice coding with real world charts following official coding guidelines along with experience in chargemaster development and case mix analysis. Students successfully completing this course along with HINT 294 are academically prepared for the CCA (Certified Coding Associate) certification exam through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Note: This course along with HINT 294 requires lecture and laboratory with use of computerized encoding systems. Grade Note(s): A grade of C or better is required to pass this course successfully. Prerequisite(s): HINT 221 , HINT 222 and HLTH 250 Corequisite(s): HINT 294 Course Learning Outcomes: 1. Develop resolutions to address discrepancies in documentation.
2. Determine compliance to computer assisted coding.
3. Evaluate the accuracy of diagnosis codes, procedures’ codes, and groupings according to current guidelines.
4. Analyze the health record to ensure supporting documentation.
