CSCI 258 - Introduction to Game Design 3 Credits This course introduces the game development process, starting with the history of games and their evolution. Students will explore key areas like platforms, player modes, goals, genres, gameplay, narrative, and audio. Through various development methodologies, students will learn how games are designed, produced, and maintained, from concept to marketing. Prerequisite(s): CISP 111 Course Learning Outcomes: 1. Develop a structured game design document that outlines the core elements of a new game idea.
2. Design a basic game concept using objectives, mechanics, and player interactions.
3. Evaluate the roles and responsibilities within a game development team, assessing their contributions to the production process.
4. Classify different game genres, player motivations, and platform characteristics using key design frameworks.
5. Explain the historical evolution of games and their impact on contemporary game design.
