CATR 220 - Abstracting Methods 3 Credits This course Introduces students to the principles of cancer registry abstracting. Students will use the case finding process to identify reportable cases and select appropriate clinical information from medical records in alignment with cancer regulatory core data item requirements. Students will gain proficiency identifying, coding, and staging site-specific cancer information using appropriate manuals and computer applications. Grade Note(s): A grade of C or better is required to pass this course successfully. Prerequisite(s): CATR 210 Course Learning Outcomes: 1. Apply process to abstract all pertinent information regarding a patient’s cancer diagnosis from a set of medical records.
2. Identify the types of cancer cases that must be abstracted, when they should be abstracted, and how to abstract tumor registry information.
3. Identify reportable cancer cases by using the case finding process.
4. Describe the types of information commonly contained in cancer records.
