LEGL 101 - Introduction to Legal Studies


3 Credits
Students are introduced to basic legal vocabulary, the federal and state court systems, and legal ethics. They also become familiar with a variety of law-related working environments.
Prerequisite(s): ENGL 109  
Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Use office management technology to enter case file information and bill time to support the business function of law office management.
2. Prepare a legal case brief for a given fact situation consistent in format and style with legal writing techniques.
3. Apply legal research methods to find the source of law for a given fact situation.
4. Explain the litigation process, including jurisdiction and court procedure.
5. Identify the ethical principles of the Model Rules of Professional Responsibility, including the unauthorized practice of law.
6. Define legal terms commonly used in the profession for law office management and the litigation process, legal research, and writing.
