ENGL 130 - Writing, Research and Reasoning 3 Credits This course focuses on the development and application of analytical, expository, and persuasive writing skills and strengthening foundational literacies to enhance academic expression. Students will evaluate information and audience to improve form and content. Critical thinking is developed by analyzing readings and creating materials using a variety of modes. A significant portion of the course is dedicated to the research process, where students learn to locate, evaluate, and integrate credible sources into their work. Course Learning Outcomes:
- Create academic writing in a variety of modes by applying all stages of the writing process.
- Demonstrate methods for conducting academic research and synthesizing source material.
- Utilize critical thinking skills by analyzing diverse content.
- Construct original arguments based on persuasive appeals.
- Integrate credible sources into academic work using American Psychological Association (APA) Style standards.
- Construct original graphics to visually support and enhance written assignments.
- Collaborate effectively as a team member to complete a writing project.
- Employ standard grammatical and stylistic conventions.
