Credit may be earned through the successful completion of ACE-recommended external learning courses delivered by Straighterline and Sophia Learning and evaluated for equivalency by Davenport University. These external learning course options are self-paced, and completion of learning materials is self-directed.
Students are responsible for ensuring that courses have been evaluated by DU prior to enrollment by reviewing current equivalency listings.
Students should discuss plans to complete any of these courses with their advisor to determine how the course credit will be applied to the student’s specific degree plan and program sequencing.
It is recommended, but not required, that for sequential courses in a subject, such as Beginning Spanish I and Beginning Spanish II, students complete at least one course in the sequence in a standard (non-self-paced) format to support foundational knowledge of the subject if they do not have direct experience with the content.
The course passing threshold for external learning courses is “C” or above, as assessed within the course. A transcript verifying the successful completion of an external learning course should be sent directly to DU from the educational organization in order for credit to be applied to the student’s academic record. Credit will be noted as transfer credit and will not impact student Cumulative GPA or apply to any university Residency requirements. Credit will be applied to the student’s record based on when within the semester the transcript is received.
Note: Credit for an external learning course may satisfy a course completion requirement. However, it will not exclude/override the earned letter grade of any previously completed DU course in Cumulative GPA calculation.
